Eldorado Springs man arrested in Vernon County

On 10/31/16 around 7:45pm the Missouri State Highway in Vernon County arrested 19 year old Brandon L. Parker of Eldorado Springs, Missouri.

Mr. Parker was arrested for 1.) Misdemeanor Cedar County Warrant - Excessive blood alcohol content for a minor.

He was booked into the Vernon County Jail and is currently listed as bondable.

Update: Stolen vehicle from Bates County recovered in St. Joseph

The stolen 2001 Chevrolet Suburban from rural NE Butler on early Sunday morning was found ransacked and out of gas in a residential area of North St. Joseph, Missouri this afternoon around 2pm.

Blue Springs woman arrested in Bates County

On 10/20/16 around 4:45pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 27 year old Chelsea R. Knowles of Blue Springs, Missouri.

She was arrested for 1.) Felony Warrant - Kansas City Police Department 2.) Speeding.

Chelsea R. Knowles was booked into the Bates County Jail and she is currently listed as bondable.

Updated Obituary - James "Jim" Oren Shipley

James "Jim" Oren Shipley
James "Jim" Oren Shipley age 73 of Archie, Missouri departed this life Sunday, October 30, 2016 at his home surrounded with family and love.

Jim is survived by his wife Mary Shipley of the home; three sons, David O. Shipley of Archie, Missouri, Dale A. Shipley and his wife DeeAnn of Archie, Missouri, and Dallas L. Shipley and his wife Lori of Smithville, Missouri; a brother, Daved L. Shipley of Archie, Missouri; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Heartland Baptist Fellowship with burial in the Everett Cemetery near Archie, Missouri.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Archie woman seriously injured in Cass County Crash

On 10/31/16 around 3:27pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident on Missouri 192 at P Highway in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 1999 Honda Civic driven by 37 year old Hydie M. Middaugh of Archie, Missouri failed to yield for the 1996 Peterbilt Semi Truck driven by 52 year old Tyler L. Reynolds of Garnett, Kansas who swerved to miss striking the car but was unsuccessful and struck the vehicle.

Hydie M. Middaugh sustained serious injuries in this accident and she was transported by Life Flight Eagle to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Honda Civic was totaled and towed from the scene by G/T Tow.

Obituary - Betty L. Beeman

Betty L. Beeman
Betty L. Beeman, 88, Nevada, MO passed from this life on October 28, 2016 at Barone Alzheimer’s Care Center in Nevada. Betty was born July 23, 1928 in Vernon County, Missouri to George B. and Ada Belle (Dory) Craig. She was united in marriage to Norman Beeman on June 14, 1947 in Girard, KS.

Betty attended school in Walker and graduated from Walker High School Class of 1947. Following high school Betty worked at Nelly Don in Nevada for 14 years. She loved to sew and enjoyed making quilts. Betty was very active at First Baptist Church helping with various ministries. She helped prepare and serve many funeral dinners. She was also part of a group of ladies that made quilts for new babies born to members of the church. Betty and Norman loved to travel and especially loved spending the winters in Florida fishing. They took a group of kids to Guatemala on a missionary trip and spent several years doing missionary work in various parts of the United States. Betty loved spending time with family.

In addition to her husband Norman she is survived by her children, Craig Beeman, St. Joseph, MO, Claudia Martindale and her husband Rick, Spring Branch, TX, Mike Beeman and his wife Susan, Nevada; seven grandchildren, Josh, Annie, Cassie, Amy, John, Jeremy, and Joseph; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bill Craig and his wife Mary Ellen, Stover, MO, Dick Craig and his wife Toots, Jolliet, IL, Larry Craig and his wife Frances, Kansas City, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, George Craig, Dory Craig, Roger Craig; one sister, Irene Coones; and one daughter-in-law, Jan Beeman.



Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2016 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Rev. Hubert Fox officiating. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. prior to the service in Monday.

Virginia N. Dark
Virginia N. Dark, 95, formerly of Nevada, passed away Friday, October 28, 2016 at Truman Gardens in Independence, MO. Virginia was born March 29, 1921 in Joplin, MO to Arthur and Rhoda (Peterson) Gatewood. On December 14, 1940 she was united in marriage to Joe H. Dark and he preceded her in death in 1996.

Virginia grew up near Montevallo, MO. She lived most of her life in Nevada working as a psychiatric aid at Nevada State Hospital for nearly 20 years. Virginia enjoyed shopping, and loved being with her family – especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include two children, William R. Dark, Kansas City, MO, and Lillie Mae Plain, Virgil City, MO; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Jim Gatewood; one sister, June Cassidy; several nieces, and nephews. In addition to her husband Joe, she was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Private family interment will follow in Montevallo Cemetery in Montevallo, MO.

Obituary - Charles Vernon Swink

Charles Vernon Swink, 68, Stotesbury, MO passed from this life on October 29, 2016 at his home in Stotesbury following a lengthy illness. Charles was born October 20, 1948 in Nevada, MO to Charles Herman and Claudia Maxine (Finney) Swink. He was united in marriage to Cheryl Ann Rayburn on June 18, 1980 in Miami, OK and she preceded him in death on December 26, 2014.

Charles was raised in the Richards and Stotesbury area. He attended school in Richards and graduated from Richards High School in 1966. Following high school Charles served in the United States Army for 22 years achieving the rank of Sgt. First Class. During his time in the service he did two tours of duty in Vietnam and also was stationed in Germany, Australia, and Central America. Upon his return to Vernon County he worked at the Nevada State Hospital, Key Work Clothes in Nevada, and the City of Nevada until his retirement in 2002. Charles was a member of the Nevada Eagles Lodge #3770, and the American Legion Post #2.

Survivors include his children, Lynna Overman, Moundville, MO, Jackie Vinzant, Richards, MO, Charles K. Swink, Nevada, MO, Rebecca Pruett and her husband Benjamin, Blue Springs, MO, Connie Swink, Stotesbury, Vernon Swink, Stotesbury; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Sharon Bogan, Hume, two brothers, Earl Swink, Stotesbury, and J.D. Swink, Hume, MO; numerous nieces, and nephews. In addition to his wife, Cheryl, he was preceded in death by his parents, and one grandson, Keaton Charles Swink.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Roger Beach. Interment will follow in East Liberty Cemetery, Stotesbury, MO. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.



Those who wish may make contributions in his memory to Children’s Mercy Hospital in c/o Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Driver walks away from rollover near Drexel


Yesterday the Drexel fire department was summoned to a location on country road 14001 south of town on a report of a rollover accident.

Fortunately, the driver escaped injury and refused medical treatment at the scene. 

The drivers name and more details will be released as the official accident report becomes available.

Two children injured in Cass County crash

On 10/30/16 around 12:48am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County responded to a one vehicle accident on Northbound I-49 just South of North Cass Parkway in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2004 GMC driven by 21 year old Devin M. Keeling of Kansas City, Missouri lost control  of his vehicle and traveled off the roadway striking a median cable.

Two passengers in the vehicle 1 year old Leah R. Keeling and Devin M. Keeling Jr. ( Under the age of 1 year old) both sustained minor injuries in this accident and both children were transported by ambulance to Children's Mercy Hospital in downtown Kansas City, Missouri for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by J's Southland Towing.

Obituary - Nelson Melvin Stoddard

Nelson Melvin Stoddard
The funeral service for Mr. Stoddard will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 31, 2016 at Hill and Son Funeral Home in Appleton City, Missouri .

The minister officiating at the service will be Reverend Mark Avery .

Visitation will be held at the funeral home between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. preceding the service.

A Military Graveside Service will be presented by the Appleton City VFW Post #11242 and U.S. Army Missouri Honor Guard.

Internment will be in the Appleton City Cemetery, Appleton City, Missouri.

The family suggests any memorial donations be made to Heartland Hospice.

Nelson Melvin Stoddard, 87 Passed away peacefully October 28, 2016 at Medicalodge in Butler, Missouri. He was born June 4, 1929 in Longdale, Oklahoma to Vernie and Ruth (Nelson) Stoddard.

Nelson met the love of his life, Frances Osterhout, and they were united in marriage October 16, 1954 in Sault St. Marie, Michigan. In 1967 they moved to Appleton City, Missouri. Nelson and Frances were blessed with four children, Beverly, Philip, Mark, and Melvin.

Nelson enjoyed farming and woodwork, but most of all he loved visiting with neighbors and friends. Hunting and fishing with his family were also some of his most cherished times. He never knew a stranger, always extending a helping hand and exchanging a happy word with everyone he encountered. Nelson was renowned for his green thumb, and especially for growing the best sweet corn in the Appleton area. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family.

Preceding Nelson in death were his parents; wife Frances; sister Louella Stackhouse; brothers: Alvin, Leland Leroy, Dean, Douglas, and Ronald Stewart Stoddard

Survivors include his daughter Beverly Johnson of Appleton City, Missouri and friend, Rusty Thompson of Independence, Missouri: three sons: Philip Stoddard and wife, Maggie of Montrose, Missouri, Mark Stoddard and wife, Lisa of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Melvin Stoddard of Grandview, Missouri; grandchildren: Cynthia Wade and husband, Bryan of Appleton City, Aaron Johnson and wife, Annie of Appleton City, Jessica Stoddard and Chuck Simpson of Osceola, Missouri, Stacy Johnson and husband, Clint of Appleton City, Ashlee Stoddard of Johnston, Iowa, Brett Stoddard and fiancé Jessica McDowell of Kansas City, Missouri, Todd Stoddard and wife Sierra of Appleton City, and Kameron Stoddard of Appleton City; great-grandchildren: Nathan Wade, Caitlin Wade, Bailea Johnson, Mason Johnson, Jordan Jackson, Weston Simpson, Harper Stoddard, and Mattie Johnson; sisters: Janice Jones, Verma Radliff, Eileene Crusha; brother Lonnie Stoddard; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Vehicle reported stolen in Osceola later recovered in Jackson County

On Oct. 26, a St. Clair County deputy took a stolen vehicle report on NE 451 Road, Osceola. William Buckler reported a dark green 1999 Honda Accord stolen from his driveway. 

A suspect was named. Later the same day, it was learned the vehicle was recovered in Jackson County by Missouri State Highway Patrol after it was involved in a motor vehicle accident and was towed.

Appleton City man arrested on St. Clair County warrant

On Oct. 26, Terry Sieleman, 38, Appleton City, was arrested on a St. Clair County warrant charging him with class C felony possession of a controlled substance and class A misdemeanor unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. Bond is set at $20,000 cash or surety.

The charges stem from a St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office investigation the previous day. A traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle Sieleman was a passenger in. 

During the investigation members of the Mid Missouri Multi Jurisdiction Drug Task Force arrived on scene to assist with the stop. 

A check revealed Sieleman had two warrants from Henry County for failing to appear in court on misdemeanor charges of harassment and speeding. Total bond on those charges were set is set at $1,274 cash or surety. Sieleman was taken into custody.

The investigation continued at a camper that Sieleman resides in behind an abandoned residence on Burdette Street, Appleton City. A plastic bag with a white powder and several items of drug paraphernalia were discovered in the camper. 

The white powder field tested positive for methamphetamine. Sieleman was taken into custody.

Boil Water Order for Rockville

Due to the large fire Friday evening/Saturday morning, the water tower and lines were depleted.  

This necessitates the issuance of a boil order for all users supplied by the City of Rockville water tower system for a minimum of 3 days or until further information is supplied.

Obituary - Calvin Willis

Graveside services for Calvin Dwain Willis Sr. of Amoret, Missouri will be 1:15 p.m. Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Benjamin Cemetery in Amoret. Visitation prior to services from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler, Missouri. Contributions to Billy Graham Ministries or Andrew Wommack Ministry.

Calvin Dwain Willis, age 85 of Amoret, Missouri died Friday, October 28, 2016 at his home in Amoret. He was born December 1, 1930 to Calvin and Ruby Campbell Willis in Kansas City, Kansas.

Calvin grew up in Armourdale, Kansas and attended Morse Grade School. On March 15, 1952 he was united in marriage to Virginia Lee Turley in Eureka Springs, Arkansas and to this union seven children were born. Calvin worked as a miller most of his life. He worked in the Kansas City area for several companies including Drexel Company, Paniplus Company and A.D.M. Company. Calvin retired in 1987 and moved to Amoret. He was a member of the Amoret Christian Church.

Calvin enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, gardening, studying the Word (Bible) and traveling. He was a quiet, hard working family man and a great story teller of campfire stories.

Calvin is survived by four sons, Calvin Dwain Willis II and wife Connie of Parker, Colorado, Larry Lee Willis and wife Debi of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mark Steven Willis and wife Pat of Peculiar, Missouri and Douglas Scott Willis and wife Val of Belton, Missouri; two daughters, Ellen Marie “Callie” Houx and husband Mike of Edwardsville, Illinois and Tracy Katherine Williams of Lebanon, Missouri; two brothers, Bob Willis and wife Frances of Neosho, Missouri and Lee “Huey” Willis a wife Mary of Raymore, Missouri; two sisters, Shirley Busey and husband Kenny of Armourdale, Kansas and Marie Arnold of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Ruby Willis; son, Brian Paul Willis; wife, Virginia Lee Willis; brother Gary Willis and sister, Laveda Irene Willis.

Obituary - Gabrielle (Gabi) Mikaya Keil

Gabrielle (Gabi) Mikaya Keil
Gabrielle (Gabi) Mikaya Keil of Harrisonville, Missouri, where she lived and she was born on November 28, 2000, was the daughter of Dave and Lana Keil. She departed this life on Thursday, October 27, 2016. She is survived by her two sisters Claire and Jennifer, her paternal grandparents Gene and Pat Kei, and nephew and niece Korie and Montallana, respectively. She was welcomed into heaven by her beloved maternal grandparents, Billy and Clara Everidge.

Gabi was an eleventh-grade student at Harrisonville High School where she enjoyed astronomy and science. Gabi loved being with her friends and family, going on vacations, board games, going to concerts having parties, playing hide and seek, playing music and records and spending time with her cat Felix. Although Gabi had many talents and hobbies, she excelled in photography and writing. She was a published author in the book Discovered: 2013 Poetry Collection (pg. 105).

Funeral service will be held 5:00 p.m., Sunday, October 30, 2016 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri. Cremation to follow the service.

Family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., Sunday, October 30, 2016 at the funeral home.

Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Gabi Keil Memorial Fund.

Butler woman injured in Vernon County crash

On 10/29/16 around 7:45pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County responded to a one vehicle accident on Route N around 1 mile west of Sheldon, Missouri.

The Missouri Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 61 year old Connie R. Blancett of Butler, Missouri failed to negotiate a curve and traveled off the South side of the roadway and overturned.

Connie R. Blancett sustained minor injuries in this accident and she was transported by ambulance to Barton County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Garwood's Tow of Nevada, Missouri.

Stolen vehicle out of rural Butler

Be on the look out for this stolen vehicle
Be on the look out for a stolen 2001 red in color Chevrolet Suburban that was stolen early this morning from a residence in rural NE Butler.

The vehicle has a damaged drivers side back fender and a Missouri License plate number of  ML4-F8L.

Large Structure fire in Rockville

Shortly after midnight this morning the 
Rockville Fire Department along with assistance of the Rich Hill Fire Department, Butler Fire Department and the Appleton City Fire Department responded to a large structure fire in Rockville, MO at the former Mott meat locker.

Fire Crews battle this fire several hours and the cause if the fire is under investigation at this time.

No one was injured in this fire and the building was a total loss.

Obituary - Scott Matthew Arlint

Scott Matthew Arlint
Scott Matthew Arlint, age 27, of Walker/Houston, MO, passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2016. He was born July 27, 1989, in El Dorado Springs, MO, the son of Alen Arlint and Rose (Milligan) Arlint. 

Scott attended Northeast Vernon County School and graduated with honors. He married Kendra Mitchell in 2008. To this union one child was born, Jocelynn Renee Arlint.

Scott studied and volunteered as a fire fighter with the Walker Fire Department and several other fire departments. He started fighting fires at age seventeen and fighting fires was still his first love. He excelled in this field.


Scott passed away working at what was his second love. He drove a semi truck for a living. He couldn’t wait to climb into the cab of his truck and become the King of the road. He had a joy for life that was unequalled. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Preceding Scott in death were his great-grandparents Robert and Agness Arlint and Vern and Lola Myers.

Survivors include his three children: Jocelynn Renee Arlint of Oklahoma, Preston Levi Collins of Nevada, MO, and Zane Arron Cole of Walker, MO; his fiancé Melissa Koehn and her three children, Hope, Sabrina and Gabe, all of Houston, MO; Scott’s parents, Rose Arlint of West Plains, MO and Alen and Darla Arlint of Walker, MO; one brother Jason Arlint and wife Amber of Nevada, MO; four stepsisters: Dannielle McWilliams of Nevada, MO, Suzanne Prough and husband Greg of Nevada, MO, Jessica Dodd and husband Steven of Jerico Springs, MO, and Ashley Hardy and fiancé Harry of Nevada, MO; grandparents, Glenn and Mary Arlint of Helena, MT, Jack Barnes of Walker, MO, and Pat and Sinon Ozkal of Nevada, MO; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and numerous other family members and friends.

Arrangements were under direction of the Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs, and a service is to be scheduled later.

Creighton woman injured in Cass County Crash

On 10/28/16 around 10:32pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County responded to a one vehicle accident on Route N just East of Chandler Road in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2006 Ford 500 driven by 44 year old Donna J. Grieser of Creighton, Missouri traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a ditch.

Donna J. Grieser sustained minor injuries in this accident and she was transported by Garden City EMS to  Cass Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The vehicle received minor damage and it was driven from the scene of the accident.

Amoret woman escapes injury in Cass County Crash

On 10/28/16 around 10:15am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with Cass County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two vehicle accident on Missouri 7 Highway just North of Kircher Road in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2013 Chevrolet driven by 34 year old Johnathan D. Rice of Malden, Missouri over took and struck the rear of the 2011 International driven by 34 year old Pamela M. Talley of rural Amoret, Missouri.

Mr. Rice sustained minor injuries in this accident and he was transported by private vehicle to Cass Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The 2013 Chevrolet was totaled in this accident and towed from the scene by Miller Tow.

Norma Lee Chambers-McVey, age 79 years, passed October 26, 2016 at EW Thompson Health and Rehabilitation in Sedalia, Missouri. Memorial Services will be at 10:00am, Tuesday November 1, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Deepwater, Missouri. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of Deepwater or Teay’s Chapel and may be left in the care of the funeral home. Norma was born on February 24, 1937 in Appleton City, Missouri to Wilbur Lawrence Miller and Viola Williamson. She was united in marriage to Doug Chambers who passed in 2003 and later remarried to Glenn Eugene McVey who passed in 2015. Norma played the organ for the First Baptist Church of Deepwater for many years. She was a bird lover and particularly fond of cardinals. She loved to travel, play cards with friends, and enjoyed visiting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and playing games with them.

Among survivors are her daughter; Sherri Sue Rook (Dan) of Springfield, Missouri, daughter in law; Marilyn Chambers of Sedalia, Missouri, two grandchildren; Richard Lynn Chambers (Heather Renee) and Teresa (Teri) Renee Martin, three great grandchildren; Kinzer Douglas Chambers, Axton Luke Martin, and Karlie Jean Chambers, and nephew; Larry Dunning (Mildred), of Deepwater, Missouri. 

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, husbands; Doug Chambers, and Glenn Eugene McVey, and her son; Bill.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, MO.

Kansas City woman arrested in Bates County

On 10/29/16 around 2:10am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 22 year old Melissa D. Mitchell of Kansas City, Missouri.

She was arrested 1.) Felony Possession of a controlled substance ( Cocaine) 2.) Possession of up to 35 grams of Marijuana 3.) Speeding 4.) No Registration.

Melissa D. Mitchell was booked into the Bates County Jail and placed on a 12 hour hold.

Obituary - Rex Daniel Smith

Rex Daniel Smith
Rex Daniel Smith, age 70, Gardnerville, Nevada formerly of Linn County, Kansas passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at his home. He was born in Orange, California the son of Clayton and Treva Towels Smith. After graduating from high school he attended Pittsburg State University and earned a BS in Business Administration. 

He married Raquel Sierra on February 14, 1977 at St. Therese''s Catholic Church in Lake Tahoe, California. He currently owned Tahoe Jewelers. He was a member of St. Gall Catholic Church in Nevada and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mound City, Kansas when visiting family. He was a Lt. Colonel and squadron commander in the Civil Air Patrol. He enjoyed reading, history, and was always eager to learn more. Rex could always laugh and had a smile on his face. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Hillary. Rex is survived by his wife Raquel, three sons: Matthew Smith and Yolaunda, Courtney Smith and Ashley, and Kyle Smith and Jessica, a daughter Nicole Smith, and two grandchildren, Hayden Elizabeth Smith and Kiara Jackalin Luhrs. 

Funeral liturgy will be 10 am Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at the Sacred Heart Church, Mound City, Kansas. Burial in the Prescott Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 am to service at Sacred Heart Hall. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association. On line condolences can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com.
