Updated Obituary - Susan Marie Long

Susan Marie Long
Susan Marie Long, 61, of Pleasant Hill, was born, June 29, 1955, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Horace R. and Betty L. (Sneed) Storey. She departed this life at 8:05 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2016, at the St. Luke’s Hospice House, Kansas City, surrounded with love and family.

Susan was a 1973 Lee’s Summit High School graduate; later attending Longview College.

On September 14, 1989, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Ray Long in Miami, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on July 22, 2011. Susan was employed as an accountant for the U.S. Department of Agriculture retiring in 2010. She loved going to the casino, mushroom hunting, fishing, hunting, archery, and she was a gifted quilter.

Susan was also preceded in death by her father, Horace on February 3, 2011.

She is survived by one daughter, Kelly (and Bill) Curtis of East Lynne; one son, Jason (and Kristin) Hale of Lone Jack; 3 grandchildren, Breanna Curtis of East Lynne, Cash Hale and Gunner Hale, both of Lone Jack; her mother Betty Storey, of Pleasant Hill; two brothers, David (and Virginia) Storey of Parrish, Florida and Johnny (and Christie) Storey of La Cygne, Kansas ; two sisters, Marilyn Barr of Warsaw, and Carol (and Richard) Tevis of Port Orange, Florida; two step-children, Donna (and Shane) Barnett, of Pleasant Hill, and Scott (and Stacy) Long of Strasburg; 4 step-grandchildren, Darcy (and Pete) Riefle of Kansas City, Brad (and Allison) Barnett of Columbia, Bailey Long and Meagan Long, both of Strasburg; other relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the St. Luke’s Hospice House for their care and support during her time there.

Cremation has been accorded.

Memorial services will be held 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill, Missouri. Reverend D. Kent Deubner of the Pleasant Hill First Christian Church will officiate.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Luke’s Hospice House and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
