Bates County Sheriff's Department Press Release: Shots Fired At Sheriff's Deputy Residence

On 12/21/13, The Bates County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shots fired call in rural Amsterdam.  The residence was that of a Bates County Sheriff’s Deputy.  The Deputy advised that an unknown pickup truck stopped in front of his house on the gravel road.  The Deputy heard a gunshot followed by additional two rapid gunshots.

The Deputy called for assistance but could not get a description of the truck.  The truck and its unknown occupants left the area of the Deputies house and traveled south on the gravel road.   Deputies arrived on scene and began to canvas the area.  Deputies talked with several neighbors who stated that they heard the shots but did not get a description of the truck.

At the time of the incident the Deputy’s children were not at home.  The Bates County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information from the public about the identity of the suspects involved.

“Situations like this just remind us as police officers that just doing our jobs will make us targets for the would be thug.” said Sheriff Anderson.

“Despicable actions like this will not discourage or intimidate us from continuing to do our jobs.“

There is a $500 Reward for the information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the person or people involved.   If you have information in this case or any other crimes please contact the Bates County Sheriff’s Office at 660-679-3232
