Freezing rain and sleet will intensify this afternoon and transition to snow by around sunset. Ice accumulations will be heaviest on either side of a line from Linn County Kansas to around Macon County Missouri, where up to a quarter inch of accumulation is possible. Trace amounts to about a tenth of an inch can be expected north and west of that area. Heavy snow will fall along and northwest of the I-35 corridor making travel extremely difficult tonight. Bitterly cold temperatures will overspread the region Monday through Tuesday with windchill values as low as minus 25 degrees by Tuesday morning.
