Butler solar farm project on hold

Notes from the Butler City Council meeting Tuesday evening:

The Butler City Council has decided that Butler's Christmas lights be turned on December 7th...the same evening as the Christmas Parade. This will add to the Christmas Parade's glamour...always a high-light of the season.

In other Council news, that Visioning Committee from Drury University in Springfield, means business. They are showing that the study they're making to help improve Butler, is not just a school class project.
As we told you after a recent meeting, they are studying our community and are coming up with good ideas, such as a community center, but also of the need for a grocery in the downtown area, and other constructive thinking.

They met September 9th in a public gathering, with about 40 in attendance, and had another meeting this past Monday night. Other meetings with the visioning committee October 17th, December 12th, and a final public meeting in January.

The mold problem at our police station has proven to be more than had first been thought. The company from Harrisonville, "Assured Remediation," has been working on the removal of mold in the inside wall that separates the kitchen from the training room area, and more areas have been found, which would add about more than eight-thousand dollars to the cost of getting rid of it.

And more mold has been found in the duct work in the east part of the building, which is a portion not covered by the present workers, and so bids will be taken for cleaning and/or replacing that duct work.
The Council approved the extra work and the added expense to get things right at our Police Station.

The taxiway sealing project and trench drain installation at Butler Memorial Airport has been completed.
The Butler City Council agreed with Bates County Sheriff Chad Anderson that the old jail cells, located where the Thrift Shop is now housed, be donated for the Bates County Law Enforcement Historical Museum which is located in the former Butler Historical Museum.

The "Bates County Sheriff's Possee has the Law Enforcement Museum will be spearheading the restoration project.

Butler's Solar Farm project has been put on hold while they iron out some difficulties, we will keep you updated on their progress

The Council had some questions about dogs considered to be dangerous,.. pit bulls in particular...City Attorney Tom Addleman checked with several other communities, Springfield, Independence, Grandview, Boonville and others, and found nothing unusual in their dealings that Butler doesn't already take care of. All dogs are to be penned or on leash, along with the other normal dealings with pets. Several dog owners were at the council meeting.

The Council got two bids concerning roof repairs to city facilities, but will take more bids untilOctober 3rd on that work. Additional bids must be in by ten a.m. October 3rd.

And you may recall that Butler had decided to give the proceeds from the recent circus to Joplin, and although the profits to the city didn't come to five-hundred dollars, the Council made up the difference and is helping Joplin with that amount. Our City Council voices all our hopes and prayers for those folks, and we congratulate them for their thoughtfulness, in the name of Butler citizens.

That's the Butler City Council picture up to now...remember you're welcome at any and all meetings, the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month, upstairs at City Hall. Be on time, as the downstairs door is locked at meeting time.
