Sheriff’s Office sets record for housing income in November.

Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher announced Thursday afternoon that the Vernon County Jail has reached a new record for housing. The Sheriff said his office has billed other agencies more than $65,000 (not including Vernon County inmates) for the month of November. “We have worked over this last year to sign new contracts with other agencies and we are starting to see the income from those new contracts” said the Sheriff. The Sheriff’s Office has re-negotiated and resigned contracts with several agencies along with new agencies that have never used the services of the Vernon County Jail in the past. Greene County signed a housing contract with Vernon County in November that could bring in as much as $500,000 alone. The average daily population at the Vernon County Jail since November 1^sthas been in excess of 100 inmates. The Sheriff said the extra income from the jail will result in adding a few more jobs at the Sheriff’s Office and will also increase what the Sheriff’s Office purchases from local businesses. “It brings money into Vernon County so the extra work is worth it” the Sheriff said. Mosher said he expects billing for December to be even higher than November and said he also expects 2014 to be a record year.
