When first discussed, the idea of a Miami alumni basketball tournament sounded like fun- however, expectations were far exceeded for those planning the event as the gymnasium was packed wall to wall last Saturday.

Playing 10 minute halves, the six teams each worked their way through the brackets to the end, where the Summer of '79 team edged Old Fat Guys for the championship win 41 to 35.

Other teams were Glory Days, Geeks in Sneaks, the Clamps and the Benchwarmers. For the record, the Summer of '79 team had a few of the oldest players...

Based on the success of the tournament, it is quite possible another will be in the works next year. Just under $2,000 was raised, with money being donated to the Miami basketball programs.
