Gutshall Selected For Missouri Family Health Council Board of Directors

West Central Staff Member Assumes New Role Representing Missouri Title X Sub-Recipients

Appleton City, MO- West Central Missouri Community Action Agency (West Central) is pleased to announce that staff member, Cheryl Gutshall, West Central’s Health Clinic Program Manager, has been selected to serve on the Missouri Family Health Council (MFHC) Board of Directors. For the last year, Gutshall has been an “At large member, ARC (Agency Representative Committee) Co-Chair, Ex Officio.” On April 1st she will assume the role of ARC Chair, Ex Officio and a new Co-Chair will be chosen.

According to their website (www.mfhc.org), “MFHC administers the federal Title X family planning program for Missouri, allocating $4.3M in funding to 74 clinic sites via 19 Sub-recipients throughout the state. MFHC provides monitoring, training, and technical and administrative support to Title X Sub-recipients. Missouri’s diverse Title X network consists of health departments, federally qualified health centers, community action agencies, hospitals, non-profits, and affiliates of Planned Parenthood. Clinic sites provide health care to clients for low to no cost with the Title X funding.

Title X staff members are specially trained to meet the contraceptive needs of individuals with limited English proficiency, teenagers, and those confronting complex medical and personal issues such as substance abuse, disability, homelessness, or interpersonal and domestic violence.

Fees for Title X family planning services are based on a sliding scale determined by the client’s income level, family size, and ability to pay. An adolescent’s fee is based on the individual’s income, not family’s.

Missouri Family Health Council is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization. It is governed by volunteer Board of Directors. A representative from a Title X sub-recipient serves as an ex-officio member of the board.”

West Central, being a sub-recipient of Title X funding, offers Women’s Health Services and mobile clinics throughout the West Central Region and will not turn away anyone, regardless of their ability to pay for services.

Lea Ann Gatzemeyer, West Central’s Director of Health Services, stated, “Cheryl’s years of experience, commitment and dedication to family planning will make her a great asset to the Board of Directors and ensure that all Title X providers will have a voice on the board.”

West Central staff members are encouraged by management to actively network and volunteer, when they are able, in their areas of expertise.

West Central’s President and CEO, Chris Thompson, said of the appointment, “Cheryl is an excellent employee who has tremendous passion for the provision of health services to the most vulnerable in our communities. I know she will be an invaluable asset to the board in her new role.”

West Central Missouri Community Action Agency is dedicated to empowering people to make a positive change by coordinating and administering resources. West Central’s service region includes the counties of Cedar, Vernon, Hickory, St. Clair, Bates, Henry, Benton, Morgan, and Cass.
