Dorothy Louise Henry Welsh, 80, of Butler, formerly of Pleasant Hill, was born, December 19, 1936, in Marshfield, Missouri, the daughter of Homer McTeer and Eva Leigh (Pippin) Farr. She departed this life, Thursday, February 23, 2017, at the Rehab Center of Raymore.
Dorothy was a 1954 Harrisonville High School Graduate. She later attended Longview Community College.
On September 9, 1955, she was united in marriage to Vernon W.C. Henry Harrisonville; he preceded her in death on May 17, 1975. On February 6, 1981, she was united in marriage to Glenn E. Walsh in Excelsior Springs; he preceded her in death on February 18, 2015.
Dorothy had been employed as an administrative assistant for Bob & Glenn’s Equipment in Butler. She had also been employed by Bendex, Western Electric, Unity Village and as the editor for the Pleasant Hill Times. She was an active member of the Ohio Street Methodist Church, Butler, where she served many years as a Sunday school teacher and was known especially for her chocolate milk and donuts to help keep the kids attention during Sunday school. She was also gifted in costume making for the various children’s programs. She has attended the Strasburg Baptist Church since 2013. She enjoyed painting, singing, music, traveling, and was an avid reader. She especially loved spending time with her family.
Dorothy was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Lee Roy Farr.
She is survived by four children, Verna (and Art) Solomon of Drexel, Joel Guy (and Debbie) Henry of Lee’s Summit; Bill (and Misti) Henry of Pleasant Hill, and Mary Beth (and Bryan) Jennings of Butler; nine grandchildren, Amber Sullivan of Archie, Colby (and Char-Marie) Jennings of Republic, Amy Henry of Richardson, Texas, Ashland (and Matt) Barney of Gardner, Kansas, Corey (and Ashley) Henry of Lee’s Summit, Jacob (and Regina) Jennings Greenwood, Houston Henry, Shepard Henry, and Aerowyn Henry all of Pleasant hill; eight great grandchildren, Michael Henry, Emery Jennings, Corbin Barney, Cecilia Jennings, Bradley Jennings, Riley Barney, Stella Henry, and Christopher Jennings; two sisters Martha Jean (and Gerald) Tabb and Ruthie Reeves, both of Harrisonville; many beloved nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation.
A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 27, 2017, at the funeral home. Reverend Preston Sanders will officiate. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers are Corey Henry, Houston Henry, Shepard Henry, Colby Jennings, Jacob Jennings, and Larry Henry. Honorary casket bearers are Dewey Henry, Richard Reeves, Robert Reeves, Ronnie Reeves, and Scott Tabb.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Rehabilitation Center of Raymore and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
