Documents related to the case have been sealed by the court, but the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office said 14-year-old Stephanie Hauck faces charges of felony manslaughter and felony second-degree assault with a deadly weapon causing injury.
It is being reported that Hauck was a foster child in the Smith home.
The cause and manner of Smith’s death are still under investigation, and officials have not released details regarding Hauck’s role in the incident.
Hauck is being held without bond at the Colorado Division of Youth Corrections’ Grand Mesa Youth Services Center. It is uncertain at this time if she will be tried as an adult.
Linda Smith previously lived in Drexel, MO and most recently in Butler, MO prior to moving to Junction City, Colorado.
