Obituary - Evelyn J. Armstrong

Evelyn J. Armstrong
Evelyn J. Armstrong, age 73, of Overland Park, Kansas, left this world to join her Creator on January 25, 2017 with her sister (Irene Collins) by her side at the Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada, Missouri. She was born on November 12, 1943 to Henry L. and Lola L. Sully of Kansas City, Kansas.

Evelyn is survived by her oldest son Charles W. Armstrong, Jr. of Big Sandy, Tennessee. Two Granddaughters and three Grandsons: Charles Armstrong III and wife Ashley with their 3 children of Crossville, Tennessee, Anthony Armstrong and wife Raven with their 2 children also of Crossville, Tennessee, Lukas Armstrong and his sister Michaela Armstrong both of Baldwin City, Kansas, Aundrea Charleston and her 3 children of Conway, Arkansas. Other Grandchildren in other locations.

Evelyn is also survived by her sister Irene Collins of El Dorado Springs, Missouri (to whom she was very close), and her niece Vicky Buckles and husband Larry of Nevada, Missouri. She is survived by other nieces and nephews of the Kansas City, Kansas area.

Preceding her in death was her youngest son Troy E. Armstrong of Baldwin City, Kansas, who lost his battle with cancer in July 2015. Also preceding her in death was her husband: Charles W. Armstrong, Sr. of Overland Park, Kansas. In addition to her parents, Evelyn lost a sister: Loretta M. King and two brothers: Owen L. Sully and James B. Sully, all of whom were from the Kansas City, Kansas area.

Even with life’s set-backs and her own health problems, Evelyn managed to keep a good attitude and her sense of humor. She was kind and generous to a fault, even if it was a hardship on her. She was gifted in making beautiful crafts. Her latest passion was creating beautiful jewelry from beads and feathers, which she was always giving away! That’s just who Evelyn was. If you needed it, she gave it to you! Evelyn spoke often about her love for her family, especially her Grandchildren. It meant so much to her, to get to see her Grandsons Charles & Anthony and their families one last time and to hold her brand-new little Great Grandbaby Kason, before she died. And we are comforted and confident that she knew Jesus Christ as her personal savior!

Evelyn bravely fought sudden on-set leukemia. She endured one broken ankle that was never set, and gout in her other foot, which caused her to be bed-ridden for her last 2 months. Her greatest desire was to be able to stand up and walk again. She spoke about it every day. Hallelujah, that’s exactly what she’s doing now with Jesus! Hats off to you, Aunt Evelyn! We love you and we’re looking forward to seeing you again…

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at First Assembly of God church in El Dorado Springs, Missouri with Pastor Dana G. Taylor officiating.
