Power outage in Northwest part of county

The power is out in Drexel and several crews from Kansas City Power and Light are in route to resolve the problem. As of 8:30 a.m., Drexel school is in session but it is not known how long the power will be off nor will the school be in session all day. We will provide updates as they are available.
Power is also out in Amsterdam-around 4:00 a.m., the Amsterdam Fire Department was dispatched to the power substation in Merwin on a report that a transformer was glowing, however it was unfounded. Yesterday the fire department was dispatched to two locations north of Amsterdam to assist  with two power poles that were on fire. It is unknown if those incidents are related to the outages today.
