Obituary - Warren Kennedy

Warren E. Kennedy, 70, of Buffalo, Missouri passed away March 26, 2011 at the Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 29 at Schowengerdt Funeral Home in Butler, Missouri at 1:00 pm followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm.

An additional memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 31st at Grace Community Methodist Church in Buffalo, Missouri from 7:00 - 8:30 pm. Warren was born January 31, 1941 in Butler, Missouri, to Myrle and Philena (Warren) Kennedy. He played football at Butler High School and at Fort Scott Community College before receiving degrees in education from Central Missouri State and Drury universities. Warren was an animated teacher who made topics come to life. When he wasn’t pulling a starter pistol or sliding into trash cans during class, he was dressing in period costumes. Warren also was an inspirational coach who used a strong voice and a quick clipboard to help many young men find the best in themselves. Warren loved to play, whether it was football, golf, backyard softball or cards. If there was a game going on, Warren was in the thick of it.

Warren is survived by Judy, his wife of 47 years, of Buffalo; two daughters, Nancy Manning (Scott) and Amy Lindsay (Larry), both of Stilwell, Kansas; one brother, Michael Kennedy (Janice) of Belton, Missouri; two grandchildren, Ben and Allison; several nieces and nephews, as well as numerous others who consider him a father, uncle or grandfather. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Warren’s name to either The Hospice House of Kansas City or the American Cancer Society.
