State 4-H Horse Judging Contest – Columbia, MO March 19, 2011

4-H members enrolled in State Horse Judging Contest saw horses of every size and shape. Included were Ponies, (POA) Paints, Saddlebred and Draft. All in all, 9 classes were presented.

"4-H members have been practicing their horse judging skills in preparation for the contest but it's more than just a judging competition," according to Ben Gallup, State 4-H youth development specialist. Public speaking, critical thinking and decision making are all transferable skills gleaned from participation. "We call them life skills but honestly the kids are here because they love horses," he added.

This year about 180 registered for the contest. The top senior team is selected to represent Missouri 4-H at National Horse Judging in Louisville, KY in November. We also recognize our top ten 8 - 10 year old contestants and junior division participants.
