For awhile, we were forced to forage elsewhere as it appeared the iconic Sam's Hi-way Hamburger was closed for good. Rumors flew. Shrines were built. We went elsewhere hoping to find something even close on the dollar menu. But wait, Sam's is open again!
Then closed again. More rumors and more trips to Swope's in Rich Hill to get fresh burgers and suzy's.
Hang on- word is (all over Facebook anyway, and Facebook certainly is the place to get reliable info) that Sam's will be open for awhile. Several weeks anyway, with future plans to remain open from here on out. We'll see.
In the meantime, your trusty Bates County Live #1 reporter went to Sam's to get the scoop. Along with a nice double cheeseburger and of course, some suzy's.
The long line outside didn't afford us the time to get official scoop on the future of Sam's. However, we'd recommend that if you're driving by and neon sign is on, you'd better stop. After all, where else can you get the same personalized service of someone calling your name out a window?
By the way, the person you heard called really wasn't James Bond.
