Baby born at convenience store saved by Sheriff's Deputy

Around 2 a.m. Saturday morning the Cass County Sheriff's office received a report of a woman crying in the restroom of Jazzi Mart, just south of Harrisonville. Much to the surprise of Deputy Robyn Burger who reported to the scene, Burger found that the woman, Christine Brown of Butler had just given birth to a 10 week premature baby girl; however the baby was not breathing, turning blue and was unresponsive. Burger immediately contacted communications officer John Bristow with the Cass County Sheriff's Department, who instructed Burger on giving rescue breaths to the infant.
Shortly after, EMS arrived on the scene to find that Burger had gotten the baby to breathe on her own and was responsive. Both mother and child were taken to an area hospital for treatment.
At this time the baby is still hospitalized and is doing well. Christine Brown was released and has returned home to Butler.
Kudos to Deputy Burger and the Cass County Sheriff's Department for their swift, life saving actions.
