Fatality on 71 Highway during icy conditions

Jennifer A. Golightly, 25, of Kansas City Mo. was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident on 71 Highway just north of route J in Cass County last night. According to the MSHP report, a 2008 Chevrolet driven by Rodney H. Swain, 41, of Independence, Mo. was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed, lost control on the ice covered roadway and overturned, ejecting Golightly. Both Swain and a passenger in the vehicle, Brandi D. Willis of Collins, Mo., received serious injuries and were transported to Kansas City hospitals for treatment. The report shows that no one in the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred at 10:20 p.m.
