Seven people received moderate to serious injuries last night as a 2000 Dodge pickup driven by Coty Taylor, 17, of Archie failed to Yield to a 1998 Jeep driven by Rodrigo Zavala-Hernandez, 28, of Kansas City. According the the report, Taylor was eastbound on the county road 15504 crossing at 71 highway and struck the northbound Zavala-Hernandez vehicle, causing it to overturn several times.
Passengers in the Taylor vehicle were Angela Contreras, 10, of Kansas City; Dillon R. Mountain-Graham, 18, of Lee's Summit and Randi P. Sell, 20, of Harrisonville. Contreras was taken to Children's Mercy Hospital; Mountain-Graham transported to Research Hospital. Taylor and Sell were taken to Bates County Memorial Hospital.
Passengers in the Zavala-Hernandez car were Emilo Zavala, 57 and Silvia Zavala-Hernandez 34; all were from Kansas City. Two medical helicopters airlifted the driver and a passenger to Kansas City Hospitals. The other passenger taken to Cass County Regional Hospital by ambulance.
The report shows that all were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident except for a passenger in the Zavala-Hernandez car.
