Overnight storms had more bark than bite

Just after midnight this morning, a large thunderstorm that spanned from Bates County to north Kansas City rolled through the area that threatened large hail and high winds. While hail size ranged from pea to nickel size, high strait line winds toppled trees and left area streets littered with leaves and twigs. In the rural areas, some barns and sheds were stripped of their tin.

Areas hardest hit appear to be in the northernmost part of the county including Adrian and Drexel. Fortunately, the heaviest damage reported was a tree on a car and downed power line, both in Adrian.

The highest wind speed recorded in the county was 74 mph in Adrian.

Tonight's forecast calls for some thundershowers after midnight, but it won't be an encore performance of last night, according to the latest forecast.
