Possible closure of Amsterdam post office- meeting scheduled

On the heels of word that the United States Postal Service would like to close the Amoret post office, now the same is true for the Amsterdam facility. Apparently, the USPS thinks those in the 64723 zip code wouldn't mind going to Drexel to take care of their mailing needs.

A meeting has been scheduled for Monday night, June 20 at 6 p.m. at the Amsterdam Community Building to discuss the possible closure of the Amsterdam Post Office. Attached is a letter that needs to be signed and brought to the meeting.

Here's more info offered by the concerned citizen's of Amsterdam:

"More than one person can sign the same letter (like a petition). We need as many people to come to the meeting as possible. The more people there the better. We need to pack the house. They do not have to ask any questions if they don't want too. If they do ask questions they need to have them in writing also and tell the USPS they also want the answer in writing and sent to them with Delivery Confirmation.  We need to save our Rural Post Offices".
