Weather Update: Severe Thunderstom Risk Tonight

Showers are already blossoming over the Flint Hills of southeast Kansas and will rapidly spread northeast this afternoon and evening. This activity will gradually strengthen into thunderstorms, a few of which could be severe overnight from Kansas City to Marshall southward. Severe weather should be confined to large hail up to around an inch in diameter. Strong winds appear unlikely and certainly no tornadoes. Heavy rain and booming thunder will accompany all thunderstorms as thunder sound waves get trapped in the colder air near the surface.
